What does this qualification cover?
The NCFE CACHE Level 3 Certificate in Understanding the Principles of Dementia Care is a nationally recognised, knowledge-based qualification for people who want to develop an in-depth understanding of dementia and its effects.
Across seven mandatory units, you will explore different types of dementia and the importance of early diagnosis; person-centred care and support; communication and positive interaction; meaningful occupation and activity; equality, diversity and inclusion; individual choice and rights; and the principles of medication and wellbeing in dementia care.
This is a substantial Level 3 qualification comprising 184 guided learning hours and 254 total qualification hours. It develops specialist underpinning knowledge but does not, by itself, demonstrate occupational competence in a care role.
Study format: Online and self-paced, supported by a dedicated personal tutor and monthly check-ins. The qualification is internally assessed through written assignments rather than formal examinations.
Work placement requirement: No work placement is required. You do not need to be employed in a care setting, although relevant professional or personal experience may help you apply the learning.
Duration: Four months
Entry requirements: You must be aged 16 or over. There are no compulsory prior qualifications, although a related Level 2 health and social care qualification may be helpful. A good standard of written English is required to complete the Level 3 assignments.
