NCFE CACHE Level 2 Diploma For The Early Years Practitioner
Kickstart your career in early years education and develop the knowledge and practical skills needed to work with babies and young children.
What does this qualification cover?
This NCFE CACHE Level 2 qualification is designed to build the essential knowledge and practical skills you need to support children from birth to 7 years of age, with a focus on the 0–5 age group. You will cover subjects including safeguarding and welfare, promoting healthy lifestyles, supporting child development, and the importance of play. You will also learn how to assist with daily care routines, plan educational activities, and support children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Study format: Online and self-paced, supported by a dedicated personal tutor and monthly check-ins to keep you on track.
Work placement: Yes, a practical work placement is required. You must be working or volunteering in a suitable early years setting, such as a nursery, preschool, or reception class. We recommend completing a minimum of 250 placement hours. This allows you to develop your practical skills, build your portfolio, and be observed in the workplace by an assessor.
Entry requirements: You must be aged 16 or over and secure a suitable early years placement. No formal qualifications are required, but we normally expect your English and maths skills to be at Functional Skills Level 1 or above. These skills will help you complete your coursework, communicate effectively with colleagues and families, understand instructions, and support children’s early language and number skills.
You do not need a Functional Skills certificate to enrol. If you are unsure whether your English and maths skills are suitable, please contact us before purchasing.
Your placement will also require the appropriate DBS check and safeguarding checks.
Duration: 12 months.
It’s ideal if you:
Want to work as a qualified early years practitioner in a nursery or preschool.
Are currently working or volunteering in a childcare setting and want to gain a formal, regulated qualification.
Want to build a foundation for progressing to a Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification.
What you’ll gain:
A nationally recognised Level 2 Diploma from NCFE CACHE, regulated by Ofqual.
Knowledge and practical skills to support children’s development, learning, play and daily care.
Confidence and hands-on experience developed through your placement.
A foundation for further study and career development in early years education.
