NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching & Learning
Take your first step toward becoming a qualified teaching assistant and learn how to support children’s learning, development, and well-being in the classroom.
What does this qualification cover?
This NCFE CACHE Level 2 qualification is designed to provide you with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to work directly with children and young people in school or college environments. You will explore key subject areas including child development, safeguarding and welfare, supporting positive behaviour, and building professional relationships within a learning environment.
Study format: Online and self-paced, supported by a dedicated personal tutor and monthly check-ins to keep you on track.
Work placement: Yes, a practical work placement is required. You must be working or volunteering in a learning environment (primary, secondary, or special school) for the duration of the course so your practical skills can be assessed in a real classroom setting. NCFE CACHE recommends completing at least 100 hours of placement.
Entry requirements: You must be aged 16 or over and secure a suitable school placement. No formal qualifications are required, but we normally expect your English and maths skills to be at Functional Skills Level 1 or above. These skills will help you complete your coursework, communicate effectively with staff and pupils, and support classroom activities, including reading, writing and basic maths.
You do not need a Functional Skills certificate to enquire — we will discuss your current skills and any support you may need before confirming your place.
Duration: 12 months.
It’s ideal if you:
Want to start a rewarding career as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or Special Educational Needs (SEN) support assistant.
Are currently volunteering in a school and want to gain a formal, regulated qualification to help you move into paid employment.
Want a flexible course that lets you study around your placement and personal commitments.
What you’ll gain:
A nationally recognised Level 2 Certificate from NCFE CACHE, regulated by Ofqual.
Practical skills and confidence to support a class teacher, pupils’ learning and positive classroom behaviour.
A formal qualification to support applications for teaching assistant and learning support roles.
A foundation for progressing to Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualifications.
