How we can help
Development for people supporting people.
Training is shaped around your organisation, the communities you serve and the situations your people encounter.
Mental health and wellbeing
Recognise changes in wellbeing, respond appropriately to distress and understand the support available within and beyond your organisation.
Counselling skills for helping roles
Develop active listening, empathy, questioning and reflection without presenting staff or volunteers as qualified counsellors.
Safeguarding and safe practice
Help trustees, managers, staff and volunteers recognise concerns, respond to disclosures and follow reporting procedures.
Communication and boundaries
Manage sensitive conversations, confidentiality, appropriate relationships, challenging situations and referral decisions.
Inclusive community support
Strengthen culturally responsive communication and understanding of autism, learning disabilities and barriers to participation.
Staff and volunteer development
Build confidence through induction, teamwork, reflective practice, wellbeing, English and digital-skills development.
Mental health and counselling skills
Listen with confidence. Respond within your role.
People do not always approach a community organisation using the language of mental health. A conversation may begin with housing, employment, money, family difficulties or loneliness before a deeper concern becomes apparent.
Staff and volunteers need the confidence to listen without making assumptions, respond without overstepping their role and identify when additional support is required.
- Recognise possible signs of distress or declining wellbeing
- Use active listening and appropriate questions
- Respond calmly to sensitive disclosures
- Understand the difference between supporting and counselling
- Maintain confidentiality within appropriate limits
- Recognise when a concern becomes a safeguarding matter
- Avoid creating inappropriate dependency
- Signpost or refer to suitable services
- Record relevant information appropriately
- Protect personal wellbeing and seek support when needed
Clear scope: These workshops build awareness and practical helping skills. They do not qualify participants to diagnose mental-health conditions, provide therapy, manage clinical risk or practise as counsellors.

Recognised qualifications
Create pathways for deeper development.
Short workshops can address immediate priorities, while recognised qualifications allow staff and volunteers to develop their knowledge over a longer period with dedicated tutor support.
Funding is subject to learner circumstances, location, programme eligibility and availability. Counselling-skills qualifications strengthen helping practice but do not, by themselves, qualify someone to practise professionally as a counsellor.
Mental health
Mental-health awareness, children and young people’s mental health, workplace advocacy and progression towards Level 3 study.
Counselling skills
Level 2 and Level 3 counselling-skills qualifications for people seeking stronger communication and helping skills.
Safe and inclusive support
Safeguarding, autism, learning disabilities and understanding behaviour that challenges.
English and digital confidence
Functional Skills, ESOL and digital development for staff, volunteers and community learners.
Community-learning partnerships
Bring accessible learning into the heart of your community.
Community organisations are often trusted by people who may not feel ready to approach a college or training provider directly. We can work with you to create welcoming learning opportunities for the people you support.
- Identify local learning and progression needs
- Promote suitable funded qualifications
- Hold information and enrolment sessions
- Deliver learning online or in community venues
- Support English, maths, ESOL and digital skills
- Connect learning with volunteering and employment
- Provide learner engagement and progress updates

We agree a format that works around employment, volunteering, caring responsibilities and the day-to-day delivery of your services.
Online
Accessible learning participants can complete around other responsibilities.
Live workshops
Interactive sessions using discussion, scenarios and practical application.
Blended
Guided learning, independent study and dedicated tutor support.
On-site
Training delivered within your workplace or community venue where appropriate.
Shared cohorts
Joint commissioning or scheduled online delivery for smaller organisations.
Training evidence
More than a certificate of attendance.
Useful records help managers and project leads understand what participants learned, what they intend to apply and where further support may be required.
- Clear learning outcomes
- Attendance records
- Knowledge checks
- Certificates or qualification records
- Reflection and action sheets
- Manager or project-lead summary
- Follow-up recommendations
- Qualification progress reports
Training can support staff and volunteer development, but the organisation remains responsible for its policies, safeguarding arrangements, supervision and assessment of role-specific competence.
